The Broken Window by Jeffrey Deaver

This is a scary story about identity theft…scary because it’s probably too close to the truth. Someone mines data about people and uses the info for very sinister purposes, such as: kill someone and plant the evidence in another’s home; or just screw with someone’s credit records and ruin their life. Lincoln Rhyme, Amelia Sachs, and their team have to find the killer, of course.

The story starts a little slowly, but picks up speed quickly as the team realizes the killer knows way too much about all of them (and screws up their lives) and they know very little about him. Amelia gets in a jam she might not get out, and a few surprises show up…like whodunit. Lincoln’s cousin, Arthur, is one of those framed by the bad guy. Thus we learn a lot about Lincoln’s life in the Chicago area and his family.
