Double Take by Catherine Coulter
An unknown assailant tried to murder Julia Ransom by throwing her off Pier 39 in San Francisco. She would have been dead if FBI Agent Cheney Stone hadn’t just stepped out of the nearby restaurant and rescued her. Who wanted her dead and why? Is the attempt on her life connected to her husband’s murder?
Dix Noble is the Sheriff of Maestro, VA and friends of Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock. Dix’s wife disappeared over three years ago. He and his two boys’ lives have been in limbo ever since; they assume she’s dead, but don’t know for sure. His father-in-law got a call from a friend in SF saying he had seen Christie, Dix’s wife. Dix goes out to SF to see if this mystery woman really is Christie. FBI agents Savich and Sherlock head out to SF to help with the Ransom case and help Dix find the truth.
How these two seemingly unrelated plot lines come together is truly a stretch and obviously a work of fiction. The dead Dr. Ransom was a psychic and, of course, had friends and colleagues in that medium…some sane; some nut cases themselves. There’s a beach chase, two bombings and love interests to keep your interest with all the supernatural mumbo-jumbo going on.
