The Blue Zone by Andrew Gross

This is the author’s first novel on his own; he’s co-authored a few books with James Patterson. I seriously doubt this was meant to be a profound piece of writing; just an enjoyable read. Nor am I a writer; so I think he did a pretty good job for his first book.

Ben Raab is a seemingly successful businessman with a loving family, wealth and status to make anyone happy. Then the feds nail him for money laundering and other assorted charges, and he must testify against the Columbian drug lords he’s been dealing with. The family is put into the Witness Protection Program, but his oldest daughter, Kate, remains in New York. The story revolves around Kate and all that goes wrong in her life for the next year or two. Lots of twists and turns and the credibility factor is pretty low. Who should she trust? Nothing is as it seems.
