Dark of the Moon by John Sandford

Virgil Flowers is a new character; he’s Lucas Davenport’s guy at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and he gets the tough cases. A guy is burned to death, two elderly couples are shot to death, and others may follow if Flowers doesn’t get the nut case doing the dirty deeds in the small Minnesota town. The author leads the reader to the guilty party and then drags the story out about actually catching him.

I felt there were way too many characters and too many meaningless subplots.Like so many other reviewers, I really like the Prey series by Mr. Sanford, but this book just isn’t up to his usual standards of storytelling.
