Against Medical Advice by James Patterson and Hal Friedman

This is the unbelievable true story of Cory Friedman, Hal’s son, who was cursed with Tourette’s syndrome and OCD. The story starts shortly before Cory turned 5 when the first symptoms showed up and continues through his senior year in high school. He went through hell on earth with assorted doctors and tons of drugs, including alcohol, trying to get his tics, noises, and body movements under some semblance of control. His school years were something no child should go through, and you’ll wonder how he made it.

Cory had the unconditional love of his family to see him through his good days and bad days. They all had courage and hope, and Cory persevered because he knew he could do anything. For them to share their story is an education and an inspiration to all.
